After a weekend off, I took on a truly tiny project today: My evening bags. I store the few fancy dresses I own plus my evening bags and shawls in the guest-room closet. Last Friday when I put away all the little wristlets that I had been taking up space in the household desk, I noticed that I have a large collection of evening bags, which is puzzling since I’ve attended probably two fancy events in the past 15 years (both were weddings).

On Friday morning, I had a meeting with a bunch of professional organizers. The last time I met with this particular group, I was 15 minutes late. This time, I was bound and determined to be on time.
I was on my way out the door when I realized my car key wasn’t where it should be. Nor in the back up place. Nor anywhere else I could see. I stomped around the house looking for it, searched my voluminous purse, created chaos in the basket where we keep keys and finally threw in the towel and asked my husband if I could take his car.
I was 15 minutes late for my meeting. Not a great way to start the day.

I love my purse. I love that I can find what I want in it without searching. Everything has a place, due in large part to the Purse Perfector, the purse organizer that sits in the bottom of my purse and keeps everything close at hand.

Three years ago, I blogged about how I loved my Butler Bag. This dandy little purse had a rigid compartmentalized insert in the bottom that allowed me to keep every in easy reach.

My three-year-old cell phone came to the end of its life recently, so I bought an iPad. I realize that doesn’t make a lot of sense on the surface, since the iPad isn’t a phone. But when it came time to contemplate a new phone, I realized I wanted the productivity of smart phone (that is, I wanted to be able to access the internet when I’m out and about without relying on a wireless connection), but I didn’t want to sign a contract with AT&T and I also craved a larger screen for my middle-aged eyes.

I love having an organized purse. For some time I used the Baggallini City Bag, which I liked because it held what I needed and I could find things fairly easily. But it was a little more casual than I wanted when I was dressed to impress.

I don’t know how men do without a purse. How can they possibly take everything they need along with them? You never hear them complaining about it, though. Perhaps they have a different perception of what they need to have with them at all times. Hmmm. Maybe I should take a page from their book and try just carrying a wallet and cell phone.
