Pictures speak louder than words
As I mentioned on Monday, our orange tabby cat, Joe, passed away a week ago. Friends have been asking us whether our standard poodle, Kirby, is missing his little buddy.

My orange tabby cat, Joe, died on Friday. I know that when we bring pets into our lives part of the bargain is that they’ll probably die before us. And it will feel way too soon. But that knowledge doesn’t make losing them any easier.
So it’s only 7:23 a.m. as I write this and I already feel like rebooting my day. Why? My cat, Joe, who’s been driving me nuts lately by lolling around on my desktop (frequently on top of my keyboard and mouse) rolled right into my full coffee cup, emptying it all over my desk. He spilled the coffee away from himself, so he didn’t even get up when it happened. I got him up.

I’m a solo entrepreneur with no employees (though occasionally I work with great subcontractors when I lead team projects), but I don’t work alone. Every day, my home office is visited by my standard poodle, Kirby and orange tabby cat, Joe.

I adore my orange tabby cat, Joe, of course. But he does a great job of annoying me on a regular basis. But when I pause to reflect on it, he’s also teaching me stuff.

I have a product recommendation for those of you with pets who shed. I have two standard poodles, who don’t shed, thank goodness. But I also have Joe, an adorable orange tabby cat, who is a shedding machine. How a 12-pound short-haired animal can leave so much hair around is beyond me. Seems like he should be bald by now.

Each morning when I’m writing my blog post one of the biggest impediments to my actually accomplishing that task is Joe, my orange tabby cat.
