What will you do with your extra hour?

30 October 2009

In the U.S., we gain an hour on Sunday as Daylight Savings Time (finally) ends. I always love this day because I’ve been given the gift of an extra hour. Rather than setting my clock back before bed, I do it after I wake up so I can actually experience gaining an hour.

I like to use that hour doing something enjoyable. This year, it will be starting my novel. In years past, I’ve taken the time to knit, to watch something special on TV, or to call a friend.

My friend, Geralin Thomas recently tweeted that she uses that time to do odd jobs, like wash the shower curtains, flip the mattresses, clean behind the fridge. All I can say to that is “wow.” That’s a great idea. But, me, I’m going to stick with enjoying myself for that extra hour. I’ll call it self care.

Incidentally, if you’re on Twitter, Geralin’s full of great ideas and resources. I encourage you to follow her. And while you’re at it, follow me!

Thanks Janine.

I don’t know why, but, this time of the year has always signaled a fresh beginning for me.

The seasonal changes are motivating for many of us. I love hearing how clients change their behaviors during these transitions.

Good luck with your writing—that is an exciting project (and ambitious!)
