Breakfast has long been a challenge for me. Once I leave the house in the morning, I’m often with a client for four hours or more. It’s important that I don’t get hungry; I don’t think well when I’m hungry. So I need breakfast that sticks to my ribs.
I’m often running late in the morning. Despite getting up early, I try to cram a whole lot in (like blogging) before leaving the house. And, as I’ve admitted here, I tend to be punctuality challenged. So cooking a hearty breakfast usually doesn’t happen.
Enter NutriBullet. This small blender (or “nutrition extractor” as the company calls it) breaks down fruits and vegetables into a highly palatable and drinkable smoothie. And it’s really convenient, because you make the smoothie right in the cup you’ll drink it out of.
I don’t love green vegetables, but I know they’re important for me to eat. When I visited my friend Shannon Wilkinson last month, she served me fruit-and-veggie smoothies and I discovered that if the balance is right, I don’t even taste the vegetables.
Here’s a picture of the pre-blended smoothies Shannon made us.
I bought my NutriBullet at Costco for about $70 on April 22. Since then, every day but one (my husband’s birthday), I’ve had a smoothie for breakfast. The NutriBullet came with recipes and guidance on ingredients. Mine typically have greens, berries (either frozen or fresh), a banana, yogurt, chia seeds (for protein and essential fatty acids), and water or sometimes coconut water. I take my vitamins while drinking it and I’m not hungry for about four hours.
Here are some of the ways NutriBullet has revolutionized breakfast for me:
Honestly, this is one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. It’s solved my long-standing breakfast problem in a healthy way. Score!

Hi, Nacho! Thanks so much for your comment. I think you’ll find the Ninja smoothies a lot easier to clean up than the juice from the juicer. I hope it goes well!

Love my nutribullet! I find that we can never get enough fruits and veggies. This is a great way to get this in early in the day.
Have a favorite combo?

Ellen, I find I’m already in a rut of spring greens, raspberries, blueberries & banana with vanilla yogurt and chia seeds. I need to mix it up though. Do you have a favorite?

Maybe try peaches, berries, spinach, and yogurt with a blop of almond butter for protein and flavor + see if you like that. (Blend a little longer because the frozen peaches are bigger pieces than berries alone.) Also, for more stick-to-your-rib-ness, add from 1 to 4 tablespoons of old-fashioned oatmeal and a bit of extra water or juice. (I prefer less but some people like lots.) Finally, for a summery change from sweet fruit-based smoothies, maybe you’d like 1 peeled cucumber, 1 ripe avocado, a scallion, 1/2 cup plain yogurt, hot sauce to taste, and fresh cilantro. Blend, then add some bay shrimp. A savory smoothie breakfast or a soup for dinner, it’s good either way.

Margaret, you always have the best food ideas! Thank you! I’ve been switching up the fruits, which has been nice. And I have used avocado, but not cucumber of scallion! And certainly not hot sauce. (Cilantro is not allowed into our home.) I’m definitely going to try adding some almond butter. Thanks again!!

Good sharing, for healthy purpose, Chia seeds offer the highest volume of Omega-3, as well as addition fiber (soluble and insoluble) along with vitamins or perhaps minerals you don’t usually get whenever you take sea food oil. Chia seeds giving you long lasting energy during the day moving in deep, restful sleep during the night time. May read this article about Chia seeds at: http://kidbuxblog.com/chia-seeds-is-the-most-extremely-versatile-superfood-and-vegetarian-supply-of-omega-3/

I started juicing, and is great the only problem is the amount of vegetables used and a little more utensils to wash once I finished. I’ve been thinking moving to smoothies now I’ve got a Ninja Blender with similar “bullets” to have breakfast in a more easy and even affordable way (I spend lots of money in vegetables juicing).
Thank you for your post Janine I’m going to give it a try.
