My microwave method of filing

25 March 2009

I’ve let some filing pile up around here. The room where our household’s filing cabinet is happens to be situated close to the kitchen. The “to-file” stuff is on top of the filing cabinet.

For the last few days, whenever I’ve used the microwave, I’ve done a little filing while my food is heating. When the timer goes off, I stop filing. If the food needs more time, I do it again. I’ve made an astounding amount of progress, basically a minute or two at a time.

It may not be the most efficient way to file, but it sure is painless!

But I think you are being incredibly efficient with your time! I do stuff like that all the time. No wasted minutes, no wasted trips from one room to the next (grab something and take it with you!).

Thanks, Kris! You’re right, it is pretty time efficient. But I’m probably opening files more often than I would if I sorted first. It’s working for me, though!

I have one of those plastic hanging file folder boxes that would work great for you to use your microwave filing time to “sort” into with just basic sections – bills, other financial, have a folder for each kid or one that just said kids, etc. I bet you could get a lot of the pile sorted in just a few days and you could file a section at a time instead of you having to open the same files over and over. It would also be a good place to through your stuff into later so that it wouldn’t be so hard to file.
Just an idea…

Sorry Janine – I just saw the date on your post about the time I hit submit. I’m sure you have filed tons of stuff since then….
